Part of our responsibility in the Migrant Education Program is to help involve parents in the education of their children. This includes both education at school and at home. Above all, we aim to act as a liason between migrant families, schools, and community resources.
The MEP assists families in many ways. Among them, MEP advocates visit the homes of migrant families to disseminate and clarifify school information (test scores, report cards, etc. Staff members can do free home tutoring for children. We can also make referrals to community organizations and assist with basic needs.
The Migrant Education Program also forms Parent Advisory Councils, called PACs, on the school district, regional, and state levels. PACs are formed so that Migrant staff can be better informed about how to better meet the needs of Migrant families.
